The Hogar de Niños Tierra Santa is a multi-faith,
non-profit organization, founded 1986 for the protection and
care of abandoned, abused and orphaned children. Our mission
is:
| · |
To provide our children with a nurturing,
stimulating and safe environment, in which we treat each
child as a unique individual rich in talents and capabilities. |
| · |
To encourage and challenge our children to discover
and develop their spiritual nature and pursue a path towards
excellence. |
| · |
To welcome religious diversity among both staff and
children and to encourage them to investigate and understand
the different World Faiths, so that they learn to respect
the beliefs of others and worship God as they choose. |
We believe in the nobility of humankind and are animated by
a desire to serve humanity. Our vision of “Unity in Diversity”
actively embraces cultural, racial and religious differences
and strives towards the harmonization of these within the loving
family of the Hogar Tierra Santa.

Rosa
January Lobos Bargas joined the Hogar after being taken
out of her family and brought to us by Honduran social
services (IHNFA) because she was being physically abused
by her mother and older brother. Rosa was born with her
right foot deformed and at some point will have to undergo
corrective surgery and physical therapy to improve her
ability to walk.
Rosa was born in El Paraiso, Danli. Rosa has never
been enrolled in school because she had to take care
of her younger brothers and sisters, but this year she
has started 1st grade at the Tierra Santa School.
Rosa joins the other girls in the Grandes area and
says that she likes the Hogar a lot because she feels
safe and knows that no one will hurt her here. Here
are some of Rosa’s favorites: her favorite food
is rice with salad, favorite color is yellow, favorite
TV show is Mickey Mouse and favorite animal is the lion.
She likes the singer Thalia and Christian music, and
in her free time she likes to read. Rosa likes Math
class the best and when she grows up she wants to earn
a degree in General Medicine. At some point in the not-too-distant
future, Rosa wants to have her own house where she can
go and live happily.

| Dear
friends of the Hogar Tierra Santa,
I am very happy to share with you this Informative
Magazine that was written by the Home’s founder
and current director, Santiago Martinez. This year-end
magazine details many of the highlights, activities
and achievements from 2006. Santiago prepared his 29
page magazine on paper in January 2007 and it has me
taken quite a while to translate it into English and
convert it into an electronic format so that I could
share it with all of you. I apologize for the long delay,
but I think you will agree that it was worth the wait.
In order to keep the file sizes relatively small, the
magazine is split into 5 parts.
Warm regards,
Blake Campbell
